The Gershowitz Conference:
The 5th Annual Conference on Media & Democratic Governance

Theme: Publicly Engaged Scholarship: The Responsibilities and Challenges for the Media and Universities

As the defender of ordinary people, the media is a fortress for the marginalized in society. Universities, on the other hand, are citadels of learning providing sanctuary for seekers of knowledge. But, how the media and universities engage the public to foster dialogue within and beyond the academy to enhance public understanding of important social, economic, and political issues faces intense scrutiny today.

What are the responsibilities and challenges of promoting free inquiry and public discussion to achieve the best scholarship and excellent journalism? The 5th Annual Conference on Media & Democratic Governance seeks to look at the responsibilities of journalists and university professors  in democratic societies – to themselves, to their institutions, to the subjects they cover, issues they preach or teach, and to the public at large.

Who Should Attend: Reporters, editors, academics, photographers, civil society leaders, students, and diplomats.

Location: School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA); 111 Washingtson Street, Newark, NJ 07102
