The Institute on Transparency and Governance (ITG) in the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) focuses on programming, research, and projects related to public sector transparency and governance. The Institute for Transparency and Governance employs graduate students to work with faculty on related projects and programming. Visiting scholars from all over the world come to SPAA to work on transparency and governance related research projects. In 2014, the Institute, under the leadership of Professor Piotrowski, served as independent national assessor for the United States’ Open Government Partnership action plan.

- The aim of the International Transparency and Secrecy Research Network is to keep participants up-to-date with new publications and research on transparency and secrecy, and to foster dialogue and collaboration in the field of transparency broadly defined. Through participation via a Listserv with 450 members from across the globe, this network facilitates online discussions of current research topics, flag new reports and articles, publicize work, and ease future cooperation among participants.
- The Global Conference on Transparency Research (GCTR) is the preeminent conference bringing together leading scholars from throughout the world to collectively advance our understanding of the impact and implications of transparency policies that involve governments, either directly or indirectly. The GCTR involves scholars from a wide range of fields including sociology, anthropology, political science, public administration, economics, political economy, journalism, communication sciences, business, history, philosophy, and law who study issues of governmental transparency.
