SPAA Writing and Career Development Center

The School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) Writing and Career Development Center provides focused help to students preparing for leadership roles in the public and nonprofit sectors. The center’s staff assists students in conceptualizing and organizing professional and academic materials. The primary focus of the center will include resumes, cover letters and personal statements, as well as assisting with the nuts-and-bolts of writing them. Its services include tutoring, small and large seminars, and referrals to editors when more intensive help is needed.

Coaching Sessions
The coaching sessions, which are scheduled by appointment, are one-on-one. They are designed to fit the needs of each student. The objective of these 30-40 minute meetings is to provide students with the necessary tools to fully express their ideas to the best of their ability. While grammar and syntax are essential elements of all well-constructed written materials, sessions will concentrate on developing structure, organization and contextual relationships to effectively communicate their ideas. Students should come to these sessions prepared to discuss their work in detail.
