Rutgers University-Newark Has Impressive Showing at the Marie Hochmuth Pittsburg University Round Robin

The 5th Annual Marie Hochmuth Round Robin hosted at the University of Pittsburg only invites the top 14 teams in the nation to compete at an exclusive invitational only round robin tournament. The Rutgers University-Newark Debate Team received two spots to the invitation-only tournament. The team of Kevon Haughton and Christian Quiroz as well as the team of Nicole Nave and Devane Murphy represented Rutgers University-Newark against teams from Baylor University, Liberty University, Binghamton University, West Georgia State, University of Central Oklahoma, Wake Forest, United States Military Academy, Pittsburg University and James Madison University. The team of Kevon and Christian struggled but succeeded in picking up a really impressive win against Liberty University, the same team that would go on to win the Hochmuth Round Robin. The team of Devane and Nicole would receive second place speaker (Nicole) and first Place speaker overall (Devane). Devane and Nicole would be ranked the second place team in their individual pod after losing to West Georgia. The prestige and honor to not only be invited but to perform well at a round robin is reflective of the students of Rutgers University-Newark and their orientation toward intelligent, successful and competitive debate
