In Spring 2016, students participated in these Rutgers SPAA study abroad courses:

    At the end of May, mere weeks before the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union (known as the “Brexit” vote), several SPAA graduate students traveled throughout London, England, as part of a class titled “How London Works” taught by Dr. Lawrence Goldman (Distinguished Practitioner in Residence). From discussions with politicians to performances at London arts centers, the students gained firsthand insight into London’s cultural and political climate. Drawing parallels between London and the United States, the class also explored issues of race, immigration, and national identity that influenced larger political actions such as the Brexit vote.     On May 14-21, 2016, MPA students visited Seoul, South Korea, to gain international public administration experience by studying the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG). Dr. Jongmin Shon (Assistant Professor) led students in an immersive experience abroad that exposed them to the city’s history and culture, as well as its challenges, including transportation, housing, immigration, and economic development. The SMG served as a case study into urban management and how reform policies can enhance public services for citizens. Read more >>
