Abdur-Razzaaq Yasin, MPA'14
Abdur-Razzaaq Yasin is a doctoral candidate in the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark. As such, he is studying human resource management as it relates to public personnel management systems (civil service, patronage, collective bargaining, and affirmative action) and state and local government management. Yasin is also a Fire Captain for the Township of West Orange, NJ, and holds several certifications including EMT, certified Fire Officer I, Level 2 Fire Instructor, and Fire Official. Since becoming a firefighter in 2002, Yasin has involved himself extensively in public sector labor relations by serving in several capacities, including executive, across all levels of government for the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA). He is a lecturer and teaches courses in the undergraduate, graduate, and State of NJ Certified Public Manager® (CPM) programs at Rutgers SPAA. He also serves as a council member on the governing board of the New Jersey Chapter of ASPA. Yasin’s dissertation is titled, “It’s in their blood” – Calling and public service motivation (PSM) in Black, Latino and Women Firefighters and the study's research questions seek to understand the factors that have led to the underrepresentation of Blacks, Latinos, and women in the U.S. fire service.
