A special screening of Amplify Democracy – a creative exploration at the intersection of art and civic engagement
Join us for a powerful screening of Amplify Democracy, a project funded by the Rutgers Democracy Lab at the Eagleton Institute of Politics. This will be an experience that brings together art, storytelling, and civic engagement in a way that feels urgent, relevant, and deeply human.
This project asks: How can creativity make democracy more participatory, inclusive, and emotionally resonant?
Through the stories of four remarkable artists working across violin, voice, painting, and graffiti, Amplify Democracy highlights how art can serve as a bridge by connecting communities to conversations about voting, representation, and civic life.
What began as a question about the role of the arts in public life has become a celebration of storytelling, creativity, and the power of collective expression.
We are excited to gather artists, students, and community members, especially those based in Newark to experience this work together and engage in meaningful conversation.
Sponsored by: Rutgers University–Newark Office of the Chancellor, Rutgers-Newark School of Arts and Sciences, and Rutgers Democracy Lab.
Free and open to the public. Seating is first come first served. Light refreshments.
Entrance at 54 Halsey Street, Hahne & Co. building. Express Newark, 2nd floor, Shine Portrait Studio 319.
