Jeffrey R. Backstrand, PhD
Dr. Jeffrey Backstrand is an Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University–Newark where he is also the director of the Center for Collaboration and the Urban Child. He is a specialist in quantitative research methods, and has considerable knowledge and experience in the areas of public health nutrition and nutritional epidemiology. Dr. Backstrand is a fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology, and former chair of the Public Health Nutrition Research Interest Group of the American Society of Nutrition. His current research investigates the causes of black-white disparities in birth outcomes, and health issues that influence childhood academic achievement.
