Dr. Anneliese Luck Joins SPAA Faculty as Assistant Professor

Dr. Anneliese Luck has joined the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark as an assistant professor starting in Fall 2026. She also serves as a research affiliate at the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania as well as the Public Interest Technology and Management Lab within the New Jersey State Policy Lab.

A demographer and social epidemiologist, Dr. Luck studies the political and policy contexts of spatial, racial, and demographic inequalities in population health and mortality – specifically, how health systems, policy environments, and political regimes produce divergent health and mortality outcomes across axes of social stratification, such as race, nativity, sex, and age. Her work has appeared in Demography, Social Forces, Population Research and Policy Review, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, and SSM–Population Health, among others. At SPAA, she teaches the courses "Health Systems and Policy" and "Society, Culture, and Public Health."

Before joining SPAA, Dr. Luck was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her PhD in Demography and Sociology in 2025 from the University of Pennsylvania where her dissertation was titled “The Unequal Burden of Death: Structural Contexts of Mortality Inequality  in the United States.” She earned a Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley and a BA in International Relations from Tufts University.
