New Magazine Builds Community Bridges Across Rutgers-Newark and Beyond

Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) has launched BRIDGES, a new magazine that will showcase the breadth and depth of civically engaged research, teaching, and practice across the Rutgers-Newark campus and its impact within the Newark community. The inaugural issue is now available online.

"Every day, our faculty, students, staff, and community collaborators work at the nexus of scholarship and service – improving local capacity, widening access to knowledge, and advancing equitable opportunities for civic participation," said Dr. Kaifeng Yang, dean of Rutgers SPAA. "BRIDGES is designed to be a shared platform to illuminate, connect, and amplify these efforts."

The magazine aims to help grow new partnerships, strengthen existing ones, and translate the lessons of engagement into richer learning experiences for Rutgers students, preparing them not only to succeed professionally, but to serve as active, thoughtful, and responsible citizens, and community partners, highlighting their activities and offering resources to support their initiatives.

BRIDGES is published by Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) with support from the school’s Office of Community Engagement and Office of Communications, and is sponsored by the RU-N Chancellor’s Office. The magazine welcomes stories, data, insights, reflections, and details about collaborative projects that reflect the spirit of public service and personal responsibility so that they may be highlighted in the publication.

"BRIDGES will thrive when it carries the voices, experiences, and aspirations of our entire community," said Dr. Yang.
