Dr. Charles Menifield Awarded the 2021 NJ State Governor’s Jefferson Award in Education
Dr. Charles Menifield, dean of the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark, was awarded the 2021 New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Award in Education which recognizes volunteers who provide academic and/or extracurricular support to others of all ages.
According to the award guidelines, "honorees of the Jefferson Award achieve measurable community impact and represent outstanding acts of public service, without the expectation of recognition or compensations. Recipients demonstrate unique vision, dedication and tenacity of heroic proportion and serve as inspiration for others."
The awards are administered by the NJ Governor’s Office of Volunteerism in partnership with the NJ Governor’s Advisory Council on Volunteerism and Community Service and NJ Advance Media. Nominations are followed by a rigorous selection process in which there is an initial screening to determine which ones go through to the judges. The judging panels consist of members of the NJ Governor’s Advisory Council on Volunteerism and Community Service, previous award winners, and community partners.
