Dr. Jihye Jung Joins Rutgers SPAA Faculty as Assistant Teaching Professor

Dr. Jihye Jung, Rutgers SPAA Assistant Teaching Professor

Dr. Jihye Jung is joining Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) faculty as an assistant teaching professor starting Spring 2021. Dr. Jung’s research interests focus on how accountability manifests at the implementation level through performance management and networked governance. She is a PhD graduate from the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver. Her dissertation topic was “Dimensions of Democratic Accountability of Foundations: Transparency and Grantmaking Openness.” 

In her new role, she will be teaching the MPA level courses Managing Public Organizations and Applied Statistics during the Spring 2021 semester. “To link my research to teaching, I’d like to highlight accountability as a way to promote public values by introducing research on and practical examples of incorporating democratic notions into management practices,” said Dr. Jung. “Given the remote learning set-up, I believe it is critical to build an online community that provides regular cooperation and collaboration opportunities and develops supportive relationships among students and instructors.” Toward this, she plans to incorporate more assignments and discussions focusing on student-to-student interactions and using multimedia, create informal social communication platforms, set up meeting times with students, and hold both individual and group office hours.

“SPAA is such an esteemed program at Rutgers University and well known for exceptional faculty in the field of public administration. I’m very excited to learn from many experienced professors,” she said. “Also, as part of an urban university, SPAA serves a diverse student population. It is a great opportunity for me to be able to work with students from different backgrounds. Such an opportunity constantly inspires me to be aware of the importance of critical thinking and incorporate it into my research and teaching. It’s rewarding to help students to be ready for a diverse society.”
