Dr. Diego Galego Releases Internationally Comparative Book on LGBTQ+ Policy

New Palgrave Macmillan title presents a first-of-its-kind framework for queer-inclusive policymaking

Dr. Diego Galego, assistant professor in the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark, has published Queering Public Policy: A Disruptive Yet Inclusive Framework for Policymaking (Palgrave Macmillan, Palgrave Pivot).

Drawing on research conducted across four countries – Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and the United States – the book offers a rigorous, data-informed analysis of how LGBTQ+ actors have transformed the global policy agenda.

It presents a systematic framework for understanding queering as a policy process, with implications for scholars, practitioners, and advocates working at the intersection of identity, governance, and public administration.

The work bridges several disciplines, including public policy, queer theory, comparative politics, and public administration, making it a valuable resource for researchers and policymakers alike.

"This book is about transformative thinking more than only LGBTQ+ rights," said Dr. Galego. "It's about rethinking who gets to shape policy, how, and why – and building frameworks that are both analytically rigorous and genuinely inclusive."

Dr. Galego joined the Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration in 2025, where his scholarship focuses on equity, inclusion, and the politics of policy change. Queering Public Policy is his latest contribution to an emerging body of literature that challenges dominant paradigms in governance and policymaking.
