Graduate Profile: Carolann Pierre (MPA'18)
Why did you enroll at SPAA?
After reviewing SPAA’s website and speaking to representatives at a SPAA open house, I gained a better perspective on how this major aligns with my current management position and future employment goals.
What do you hope to accomplish with your degree?
With this degree I hope to acquire the knowledge and expertise to take on a greater leadership and supervisory position within my department of Funds Management. SPAA courses have increased my analytical skills and knowledge while allowing me to apply the strategic skills needed to better service students and their families in my profession.
Favorite SPAA memory?
My time at SPAA as an MPA student was a positive learning experience. I enjoyed coming to class knowing that the faculty members were experienced and passionate about their subject areas. So much of what I learned I have been able to transfer into practice. Specifically, my ethics class played a critical role in changes implemented in my current position.
Biggest challenge?
Besides the coursework, in particular Statistics, Economics and Capstone, personally it was my competing priorities between working full time and managing the rigors of a highly intense academic program. I could not have accomplished this journey successfully without the ongoing support of my director.
Next steps?
Now armed with greater knowledge, I feel empowered. My next step is applying theories and knowledge-based learning to everyday office challenges to strategically resolve issues. I now have an MPA through SPAA which I believe will assist in my professional and personal advancement.
