Message Regarding the Passing of Assistant Professor Michael Gershowitz
Michael Gershowitz passed away on December 21, 2014. Gershowitz was an assistant professor and director of the Writing Center, School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark.
He taught core courses in public administration, and was held in high esteem by his students and colleagues as a gifted academic who was a paragon of dedication to his students and to the public service.
Gershowitz also contributed to SPAA as a writer of federal grant applications, a curricular innovator, and a mentor to students, staff, and faculty.
For 20 years, he owned and operated Gershowitz Grant & Evaluation Services in Des Moines, Iowa. He was active in the American Society for Public Administration, serving three terms on the National Council and as president of the New York Metropolitan and Iowa Chapters.
Funeral services were December 22 at New Montefiore Cemetery, 1180 Wellwood Avenue, West Babylon, NY, 11704.
He is survived by his wife, Tova, and his children, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Abby, and Matthew.
