Message Regarding the Passing of Associate Professor Wen Wang
Dear SPAA Family:
As you may know, our dear friend and colleague Dr. Wen Wang has passed away. Wen joined the SPAA family as an associate professor in 2016 and quickly established himself as an invaluable member of our school and university. Beloved by colleagues, his loss is felt within our walls and throughout the field of public administration.
As a prolific scholar and an expert in capital budgeting and finance, Wen’s articles appeared in the National Tax Journal, Public Budgeting and Finance, Land Use Policy, American Review of Public Administration, International Public Management, and other outlets. His article, “School District Responses to Matching Aid Programs for Capital Facilities: A Case Study of New York’s Building Aid Program,” published in the National Tax Journal, won the Richard A. Musgrave Prize in 2011 for the best paper. He also served on the editorial board for the Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting, and Financial Management.
Before joining SPAA, Wen taught at a number of institutions, including the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, City University of Hong Kong, and the University of South Carolina. He also worked as a program manager for the Chinese Academy of Governance and a study fellow at the School of Public Policy at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
He earned his PhD in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, received his MPA from the University of Georgia, and his bachelor's degree in English language and literature from Nankai University in China.
