Dr. Norma M. Riccucci Awarded 2024 IRSPM Routledge Lifetime Achievement Award
Board of Governors Distinguished Professor Norma M. Riccucci in the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark has been awarded the 2024 International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) Routledge Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contributions to public management research.
According to the award committee, Dr. Riccucci received the award for her "excellent, inspirational, and lasting scholarly contribution to the field of public management and policy implementation." They said her work on social equity, diversity, and representative bureaucracy has "left an impressive mark on our scientific community, showcasing her dedication to advancing these crucial areas." The committee also acknowledged her commitment to supporting and mentoring colleagues, saying "Over the years, she has been a guiding force, emphasizing inclusivity and diversity within our discipline. Norma's mentorship has played a crucial role in nurturing emerging scholars." They noted, "In conclusion, Norma Riccucci is an academic who excels not only in her research but also in her service to the community, including her support for IRSPM."
Dr. Riccucci’s research interests lie in the broad area of public management, with specific interests in social equity policies and representative bureaucracy. She is the author of numerous publications and books including, Policy Drift: Shared Powers and the Making of U.S. Law and Policy; Public Administration: Traditions of Inquiry and Philosophies of Knowledge, which received the 2012 Best Book Award from the Research section of the American Society of Public Administration; How Management Matters: Street Level Bureaucrats and Welfare Reform, which received the 2009 Best Book Award from the Public Administration Section of the American Political Science Association; and Managing Diversity in Public Sector Workforces. She is also co-author of the leading public personnel textbook in the field of public administration.
A highly accomplished scholar and academic, Dr. Riccucci has received many of the major accolades that the field has to offer, such as the American Political Science Association’s John Gaus Award for a lifetime of exemplary scholarship in the joint tradition of political science and public administration and the American Society of Public Administration’s Dwight Waldo Award for a lifelong contribution to public administration. She has been invited to speak at conferences all over the world and is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA).
