Major: Public and Nonprofit Administration

Why did you enroll at SPAA?
I wanted to develop leadership skills and figure out a way to apply those skills into whatever career I chose. Luckily, I made the right decision because I not only developed the leadership qualities that I was looking for, but I now have a better idea of which career I want to pursue.

What do you hope to accomplish with your degree?
Although I may not have an interest in working in the public sector at this time, I intend to create a tech company in the distant future that will focus on renewable energy, while also working with public entities that have the same mission. In short, I want to be a social entrepreneur.

Favorite SPAA memory?
My favorite SPAA memory is volunteering during our first Rutgers Day in 2016. That was my first time being involved in an event during my time here at Rutgers which ended up being a lot of fun.

Biggest challenge?
One of my biggest challenges during my time here at SPAA was finding balance. This includes school, personal relationships, and my career. Out of those three, only two were manageable while the other was neglected. I haven't been successful at it, but I believe having good time-management skills and people who understand what you're trying to accomplish can help you maintain all three.

Next steps?
After getting my BA, I will be pursuing an MPA which I should receive this time next year. I kept hearing from other people when I was growing up to get my education while I still have the energy to do it, so I'm knocking that off my list before I focus on my career.

Advice to incoming students?
I feel as though no one piece of advice can truly prepare incoming students for what they are about to experience. However, I will tell them something I recently figured out. Everyone can give you advice on which direction you should take, but always be mindful that you are in control of your own life. Learning from people's mistakes and taking their advice is a good way to learn, but figuring out your own issues can help you understand life in a way that could not have been possible otherwise. Just remember this, "The decisions you make and the actions that follow are a representation of who you are, you cannot run from yourself."
