SPAA Graduate Profile: Cassandra Izquierdo (BA'25)

Cassandra Izquierdo (BA'25)

Name: Cassandra Izquierdo
Hometown: Garfield, NJ
SPAA BA Grad Month/Year: May 2025

Why did you enroll at SPAA?
I enrolled at SPAA to learn more about nonprofit organizations and community engagement. What better place to learn than in the heart of Newark, NJ?

What do you hope to accomplish with your degree?
I hope to work in fundraising and nonprofit development in a nonprofit organization that focuses on childhood cancer awareness, advocacy, and research.

Favorite SPAA memory and/or most meaningful experience at SPAA?
I have had many meaningful experiences at SPAA, but my most recent experience was the best. In my Building Bridges to the Community course, I presented my final project of partnering with a childhood cancer awareness organization to SPAA faculty, community leaders, and peers. I do not like public speaking, but the support of my professor (Shout out to Dr. Hill and T.A. Epiphany!) helped with this accomplishment.

Biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge as a Rutgers student at SPAA was juggling all of my courses while also doing extracurricular activities.

Next steps?
In the fall of 2025, I am continuing into SPAA's Master of Public Administration program, specializing in Nonprofit Management.

Advice to incoming students?
Build your social capital! Connect with the professors at SPAA. They want to help you succeed, so don't hesitate to ask for help, career advice, and opportunities.
