SPAA Graduate Profile: Samantha Booth (MPA'25)

Name: Samantha Booth
Hometown: Delran, NJ
SPAA MPA Grad Month/Year: May 2025
Why did you enroll at SPAA?
I work for Rutgers University in the Office of Federal Relations in Washington, DC. I work closely with Congress, federal agencies, and other universities and related organizations to advance strong higher education policies. I enrolled at SPAA because I wanted to deepen my understanding of how these different types of organizations work together to serve the public good, and to enhance my policy, communication, research, and leadership skills. The MPA program was flexible, rigorous, and aligned with real-world challenges.
What do you hope to accomplish with your degree?
My goal is to leverage the skills gained through the program to help shape policies that expand access to higher education. I also hope to continue growing into leadership roles where I can bridge the gap between federal policy and institutional impact.
Favorite SPAA memory and/or most meaningful experience at SPAA?
Being an online student, it can be difficult to feel connected at times. My most meaningful experience has been engaging with a diverse group of peers in the discussion forums and with the faculty members that have gone above and beyond to connect with online students.
Biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge was balancing the demands of a full-time job with graduate-level coursework. There were moments when managing everything felt overwhelming. But the experience taught me discipline, time management, and reinforced my commitment to professional growth.
Next steps?
I plan to continue in my role advocating on behalf of the university. Defending higher education is important now more than ever.
Advice to incoming students?
For online students, lean into the discussion posts, as they will help you better connect with other students and your professors and help you better understand the material since you don't have a physical lecture to attend. Also, if you are a working professional, connect the assignments with your work, as it will make you both a better student and a better worker.
