Why did you enroll at SPAA?
The public sector is where change happens, and I plan to remain a part of this process. Earning a master’s degree was the next logical step in my career, as it gave me the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful impact. When it came to choosing the right program, the decision was clear: Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) stood out as the ideal environment for both my academic growth and professional aspirations.
What do you hope to accomplish with this degree?
I am passionate about advocating for veterans returning from war. Like many challenges, getting to the root of the issue can be difficult. Services only go so far and usually end at the home's threshold. With the knowledge I have gained here, I believe I can develop a model that focuses on the veteran’s support system to improve the transition and healing process.
Favorite SPAA memory or meaningful experience:
I had such a great time meeting everyone in person during the EMPA residencies. Putting faces to names really helped me connect with my peers, and getting to know the professors in real life made the experience feel so much more personal. It was definitely a memorable part of the journey!
Biggest challenges?
The biggest challenges I faced while pursuing this degree were balancing my personal life, professional commitments, and academic responsibilities.
Next steps?
Looking ahead, I am excited to further my studies by pursuing a Doctorate in Public Administration (DPA).
What advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice for incoming students is to take full advantage of the resources available to them, both within and beyond Rutgers University, and explore their interests along the way.
