SPAA PhD student Nicolás Lagos has received a grant to present at AlgoSoc's international conference, "The Future of Public Values in the Algorithmic Society," taking place in Amsterdam, Netherlands on April 10-11, 2025.

He will be presenting his research paper titled "Humans in the Audit Loop: Exploring the Influence of AI on Controlling Corruption Effectiveness." This study is based on an experimental analysis of 1,500 public auditors across Chilean national and local agencies. The research examines how AI integration impacts corruption detection and prevention mechanisms while maintaining human oversight in the auditing process.

Organized by the AlgoSoc Foundation, "The Future of Public Values in the Algorithmic Society" conference explores how AI systems can safeguard public values and human rights. The international event brings together experts to discuss ethical AI implementation from social and institutional perspectives, beyond technical aspects. The foundation emphasizes that realizing public values in AI is a societal challenge influenced by cultural contexts and power dynamics.
