Dr. Gregg Van Ryzin's Latest Book Explores the History and Application of Behavioral and Experimental Public Administration

Dr. Gregg Van Ryzin, professor in the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark, recently published his latest book, Advanced Introduction to Behavioral and Experimental Public AdministrationThe publication explores key ideas, methods, practices, and prospects in the growing subfield of behavioral and experimental public administration (BEPA).

As a psychologist by training, much of Dr. Van Ryzin's work in public administration over the last few decades has focused on human judgment and decision-making. "I was an early adopter of experimental methods in the field, so writing this book gave me a chance to reflect on and tie together the various influences that gave rise to what's now known as behavioral public administration," he said.

In addition to investigating the intellectual history of BEPA, Dr. Van Ryzin's book demonstrates the essential role of experimental design and logic in addressing emerging challenges in public policy and administration.

"I hope this book, which is part of a popular series of advanced yet concise introductions, will become a useful resource for students, scholars, and practitioners seeking an overview of behavioral theory and experimental methods as applied to public management research," he said.
