SPAA's BA Program Hosts Essex County Prosecutor's Office High School Program for Info Session

More than 40 rising high school seniors enrolled in the Essex County Prosecutor's Office summer program, along with their program staff, visited SPAA on July 15 to meet with school faculty and administrators to learn about what the BA in Public Administration at Rutgers SPAA offers prospective students.

Dr. Michael Dillard, assistant teaching professor and BA program director at SPAA, organized and coordinated the event, and said this was a great opportunity for high school students to understand why SPAA is a great place while also understanding the endless career opportunities with a degree in public and nonprofit administration.

At the session, Dr. Dillard was joined by Dr. Briana Huett, assistant professor of professional practice, who talked about SPAA's NextGen Leadership Academy, a new program that that aims to inspire RU-N undergraduate students from all majors to explore public service careers and equip the next generation of civic leaders with the skills they need to make an impact in their communities and beyond.

Additionally, Dr. Lois Warner, associate teaching professor, shared what prospective students would learn when enrolled in her classes, and Willie Johnson, head coach of the RU-N Debate Team, which is housed at SPAA, talked about the team's stellar activities and accomplishments. Alyssa Sofman, assistant dean for undergraduate programs, discussed the key services provided by the SPAA advising team in the school's office of Student and Academic Services, and Aaron Gibbs, associate dean of student and academic services, highlighted the resources provided by the Newark campus.
